If Ed Sheeran’s ‘Shape of You’ Were a Christian Song – by Beckah Shae

Everyone who knows me well knows I’m a HUUGEE fan of Ed Sheeran. I’ve loved him since I heard his song ‘Everything has changed’ with Taylor Swift, who by the way, I absolutely adore as well!

I was however, a little disappointed with ‘shape of you’. Yes, I still do like the song and I love the beats. I find myself singing it a few times, and I thought the video was awesome! But I also felt it wasn’t the Ed Sheeran I knew; he’s always so delicate with his words, and says the sweetest things to women, almost as if he worships love. But this song was all about the body, I mean, ‘my bedsheets smell of you’, ‘I’m in love with your body?’ Nah bro, that’s not your thing. I love it, but you could have changed a few words.

It’s like Ed Sheeran is becoming ‘normal’, and I don’t like ‘normal’.

So today, I saw this video on YouTube by Beckah Shae. She’s a Christian, and I think she’s really talented. You can imagine my curiosity, to hear what it would sound like.

Confession: When I was about 10 or 11, I wanted to be a singer, and remix non-Christian songs, to Christian songs. Think I tried it for a J-Lo song; I had this tape recorder then, and actually started living my dream. Now, I have no idea where that dream or the recorder went to!

OK, so here’s the video.

Not sure how I feel about it.
Firstly, I can’t stop myself from singing along, but with Ed Sheeran’s original lyrics (*covers face*). Like I said, she’s really talented, and she did such a good job with the word change. If I never heard the song in Ed Sheeran’s words, I probably would have fallen in love with it totally, but there’s just something I can’t quite place my finger on.
Although the more I’m listening to it, I think I’m liking it more…

What do you guys think?
Christians. Ed Sheeran lovers. Remix lovers.
What are your thoughts on this?
And what are your thoughts on changing words of popular songs to Christian?
